The Emperor Has No Clothes

Today I sit with a heavy but discerning spirit.
For 43 days, our neighbors stood in food pantry lines because SNAP was shut down.
Workers labored without pay.
Parents braced for healthcare costs to soar when tax credits expire at year’s end.
And in the middle of all that pain, the Emperor cried out,
“I don’t want to hear about affordability.”
But even now, God is exposing false power.
Like the story of The Emperor’s New Clothes,
this leader strutted through the nation wrapped in arrogance,
crowned himself “God’s anointed,”
and shamed the suffering as if their hunger were rebellion.
But the garments were never real.
The righteousness was never true.
The anointing was never his.
And like the child in the story, the nation has begun to whisper—
then shout—
“He has no clothes!”
May history record this moment with clarity:
A leader who hardened his heart like Pharaoh,
starved the hungry,
silenced the suffering,
and paraded through the nation in imaginary robes.
And may every enabler be remembered standing beside him—
clinging to the hem of garments that were never there.
“Your nakedness shall be uncovered; your shame will be seen…” — Isaiah 47:3
